When you are playing Carthage in Civilization or Age of Empires, you need to build your capitol first. You should protect your capitol at a point. Points matter on maps: you can win game if you have a strong point. Some capitols are odd. My city was built far from enemies. On the other hand -- example -- Tokyo was built right next to a powerful city.
I thought I could get a port. I thought I could win with a port. The Carthraginians civilization, in time, could win with ship. In this game, I won with ship. I could win money off these ships, I could explore, and my idea in most games is colony.
I could not lose a city early. This is always a win. In Civilization 4, if you lose or win a city, you lose or win a city. Much like other games, for every loss a win, unless you are playing Chess.
I could not lose a ship early. I had the most powerful army. I had the most powerful navy. Everyone was sending me gold because of this. I could affford a large army and navy. I could afford the Carthage unique unit Numidian Cavalry, and I could get catapult. With ship, Numidian cavalry, and galley, I could win game. I won on ship by finding an island. I isolated some. I wanted money off every Civ, but in this game, I was able to last late.
There was no war Early. The French were in this game with Louis, far west, with the Japanese. I could not quite find east. I saw port, but I could not find. I could not find the technology to go east, but I always try to go west. The Russiand were north and West, the Japanese west, the French west, and the Aztecs North. Tokoguawa, Shogun of Japan, never allied. No one really allied but I was able to win gold and tribute. The game was crazy: I could not lose.
The best win in game was to find an island, not necessarily for fleet, but to build new cities. I could hold these cities -- and did -- and won more city. I wanted to beat Aztec city, but they would not attack me. The game hit me late, but people kept hitting me.
I could find gold however. The French would pay gold, The Aztecs would pay gold, but the Russians would not pay gold. Japanese would pay some gold, but I kept blockading their ports. I started an early war with them and lost. I won city, lost city.
There are 9 civilizations. I built 2 fleet bases. Winning on technology. Winning on military.
Early explored most land. Won one worker off village. Won 150 gold off villages. Built forts east and west Built forts east and west for offence and defence. I built 2 galley and 2 workboat. 500 BC I discovered new island. Galleys won me gold. Galleys won me new island city. Game is a win with ship and city. Japanese hacve Japaense built Tokyo near my western border: This was a move that I saw as a mistake and a possible win.
How can you win with technology?
How can you win with navy?
Should you play Romans?
I have yet to play against 9 civilizatons. I have declared war on no one. I do this because you can barely win, you can barely win city, and if you win a city, you just get hit by another city.
I have open borders with the Celts. I am weak on points. But I have the largest Civ, most ships, and most cities.
How can I win with Carthraginians?
How can I win with ship? Ships did not win. Everyt time I attacked, I lost ship. Some would turn on me. Some would turn for gold. Sometimes I could win. SOmetimes I could blockade. There were other islands to settle, and I could not get there. Another Civ, Islam, won island, and maybe won game. Everyone tried islandsL I was not the first.
I need new war unit, but I am winning with economy because of ship. Should I build more ship? I sense I can win gold off the Aztecs. I sense the Russians are the worst enemy. Everyone wants peace. How can you win with no war. How can you build a wonder, such as the Colossus?
In this game, I learned you could upgrade units with Gold. It was very hard for me to learn this early. I played Civ 2 a lot, but some Civ 3. Civ 2 was coded much by Civilization 1. Civilization 4 is a completely different game. There are 4 games in this box, and it has all the strategy in the world. Some of my favorite civilizations are in, but I love playing against more. It makes the game harder.
